Program Overview

The Plan

In this unit of study, we will guide you through the process of understanding the world of medicines, and show you how you can research a medicine and an issue that matters to you.

We're going to work in approximately this order:

  1. What makes some medicines so important?

  2. Where do medicines even come from?

  3. Identify an essential medicine that matters to you.

  4. Identify some of the issues with the accessibility of that medicine

  5. Research these issues in more detail

  6. Send your findings in to us!

  7. Translate your findings into an engaging science communication piece so that you can share everything you've learned with the people around you.

Key inquiry questions

  1. What information is used to determine whether a medicine should be considered ‘essential’?

  2. How does scientific understanding about medicines change over time, and what impact does that have?

  3. What factors influence the availability and accessibility of medicines? Why, and how?

  4. What tools and techniques are useful for communicating scientific information?
