Breaking Good Teacher Information Session

By Ciara Kenneally

High school teachers take part in an information session on Breaking Good offerings for 2021

High school teachers from around the world participated in an online information session and discussion about the options Breaking Good has on offer for 2021.

The first part of the session was run by A/Prof Alice Motion and Dr Kymberley Scroggie who spoke to the teachers about the various Breaking Good initiatives and the work of the University of Sydney members of the Breaking Good team over the past year. In 2021, the team will again offer E$$ential Medicine$ workshops for Years 9 and 10 and in-school synthesis options and plan to expand their program to include Depth Studies and Science Extension projects. If you were unable to attend one of the sessions you can view a short recording of what we have on offer this year here. More information about each of these programs can also be found here.

Following the information session, the floor was opened for conversation. We discussed the specific needs and interests of teachers, including Depth Studies options, assessment planning and links to curriculum as well as the potential to create partnerships with the teachers and their schools. It was particularly rewarding to receive feedback from a teacher in the USA, who had implemented the E$$ential Medicine$ challenges in their classroom.

While we initiated this session to share details of our  plans for 2021, we were delighted  to receive teachers' unique perspectives on teaching science in the classroom. As expected, this session was incredibly informative for the Breaking Good team and will help us shape our future programs, workshops and research. We would like to thank all of the teachers that attended the session, contributed their invaluable insights, asked questions and provided feedback.
